Good design in action

These case studies showcase what happens when we design the floor plan, storage and key rooms properly first, and then overlaying the finishes, so the home stays tidy on its own, runs smoother in the rush, and finally feels like it matches the life you’ve built.

Kitchens designed for how families truly live.

  • Kitchen · Hawke's Bay

They were tired of feeling in each other’s way every night in a mid‑century home that deserved better. We kept the warm timber character, designed a true two‑cook layout with clear zones, and planned storage around what this family owns so dinner can happen side‑by‑side without the bumping and constant workarounds.

  • Kitchen · Coastal

This family needed a home that could handle sandy feet, wet towels and constant coming and going. We designed the kitchen and living spaces with hard‑wearing finishes, long clear bench runs and storage near where things are used, so the house stays tidier for longer and mornings feel easy instead of cluttered and cramped.

  • Kitchen · Character Home

They loved the bones of their Art Deco home, but the old layout was small, dated and too closed off to host the way they wanted — especially being apart of a local band. Working alongside architect Simon Clarkson, we kept the original character details, redesigned the flow for gatherings, and designed all the joinery and finishes throughout the home — a project that went on to win three design awards.

  • Kitchen & Living Joinery

This was their dream home on Herald Island — the forever house they’d talked about for years — so getting it right for a busy family of five mattered. We shaped the kitchen and living joinery around school runs, hosting and quiet weekends, so the layout, storage and finishes support the way they live now and as the kids grow.

From Stewart Island to Cape Reinga

“I was so nervous about making the kitchen smaller and changing the layout, but it has made my life ten times easier. The walk‑in pantry means everything has a home, and the kitchen is now where my family naturally ends up. I’m not tucked away or missing time with my kids anymore because they’re in there with me. I’m no longer isolated.”

F-L-O

FINALISE THE FLOOR PLAN.

This is where ease or frustration gets locked in, so we resolve the layout first before anything else can complicate it.

LOCK IN THE SERVICES.

Lighting, power, plumbing and appliances need to support the plan, not be squeezed in later once expensive decisions have already been made.

OVERLAY THE FINISHES.

Once the room works properly on paper, we layer in materials, colours and fittings that make it feel like you.

A home can, and should, look beautiful and work hard.

THE FLO FRAMEWORK

FLO is the framework behind every project, making sure layout, storage and key design details are resolved before the finishes.

WHY THE RESULTS ARE CONSISTENT

The reason these projects turn out well is not luck or styling — it is because the right decisions are made in the right order, every time.

AWARD-WINNING, BUT BUILT TO BE LIVED IN

Yes, the work has won awards. More importantly, it helps busy households feel more organised and more at home in the spaces they use every day.

Joinery-led

Joinery‑led design fixes layout and storage around how you actually live, so everyday tasks feel easier and more enjoyable.

We design from the inside out – joinery, storage and flow – so your home feels calm instead of chaotic. If your bench explodes by 6pm no matter how much you tidy, the plan is the problem.
